Ignition System
The ignition system includes the battery, starter, and the ignition itself.
Common ignition switch problems include overheating, failure of the dashboard lights, check engine light, failure of the engine to crank and start, worn out wafers and failure of the key to coming out of the switch. Further problems include rapid engine shut down and keyway damages.
An engine that won’t crank may have a bad starter, or it may have another fault such as a bad starter solenoid starter drive, a problem in the ignition switch circuit, the park/neutral or brake safety switch circuit, or the anti-theft immobilizer system.
Fuel System
Three major fuel system components of concern are fuel filters, the fuel pump, and fuel injectors.
Failure warning signs are the same for most fuel system problems:
Hesitating Engine
Stalling
Not Starting
Hard Starting
Different Performance at Different Speeds
Engine Misfiring
Engine Sputters at High Speeds
Loss of Power When the Vehicle Is Under Load
Surging
Decreased Gas Mileage
Your fuel pump can become clogged if you drive your vehicle with less than a quarter of a tank of gas on a regular basis; change fuel filters on a regular basis.
Transmission
The transmission is one of your cars’ most integral parts, and transmission problems can render your vehicle undrivable, which is why you can’t skip out on this auto repair .
Low levels of transmission fluid or transmission fluid leaks are by far the most common type of transmission problem. Holes in the transmission system itself usually cause low levels of transmission fluid, the seals in the transmission or driveshaft may become faulty and leak fluid. Occasionally, transmission gasket seals may need to be replaced to seal the leaks in the transmission. In some instances, transmission fluid contaminates coolant in the radiator; this is called cross-contamination.
Symptoms of low fluid levels or fluid leaks will include gear slippage or slow shifting. In the event fluid is very old or contaminated, the liquid will need to be changed, or the transmission completely flushed and refilled.
